Accuracy and
timing in martial arts
Accuracy of
movements is the accuracy of the projection of force towards a point in space.
It is complete control of her body to hit the target. Accuracy can take two
forms
Accuracy on
a fixed target
Accuracy on
a moving target
Timing
is the skill of choosing the best moment for a single action, movement, etc.
Timing can multiply the force and divide the effort required. We have to find
the good distance, make the good movement, wait for the right moment and put
our feet well on the ground.
In
the world of martial arts, muscle strength is an element to take into
consideration, but it is better to have good striking technique to deliver a
knockout. The athlete's skill in delivering the blow to a specific target and
point of impact outweighs the strength of the blow.
We
can take the initiative to strike to provoke a reaction. We should always
strike for a reason without indicating our intentions nor striking with hope of
touch. There are many elements that we have to work on to give our strikes the
accuracy that will have maximum effect with minimum effort: saving energy,
relieving muscle tension, increasing the number of targets and reducing their
size and so on.
In
combat, we are in a state of fusion (relationship) with the opponent who is
moving and who does not remain still. The person in front of you reflects your
personality. We must always be in motion by identifying what is in motion and
pursuing it. We have to constantly change (diversify), while being able to
identify what is in constant change. Our stance should allow us to hit from any
position by maintaining our balance. It is necessary to anticipate the
opponent's movements in order to adapt to his actions.
Enforcing
“tone” (adjusting speed) and controlling distance are two ways to create a good
hitting position.
The
fact of creating a rhythm and breaking a rhythm can allow us to strike at the
right time.
